Early Learn

(Pre-nursery to 2nd Std)

Early learning at NIS is flexible, multifaceted, multilevel, play based, activity based and discovery based.

Age 3 to 8 are the most important and crucial years of a child’s life. A lot of work and research has gone into understanding the best practices that can make these years most productive in terms of both laying the foundations for effective learning and also to provide the kids with the tools for a successful personal and social life.

At NIS we have evolved an early learn methodology by blending three effective approaches into a workable system. The three approaches being:

  1. NEP 2020 guidelines with NCERT framework

  2. Montessori methodology

  3. Gurukula system

We try to instil the love for learning, to nurture their inherent inquisitiveness and creativity and to develop in them the hunger for more learning and exploration are the key objectives of our early learn program. In pursuit of those objectives, the common areas that the students are exposed are given below.

Preparatory

(3rd Std to 5th Std)

Age 8 to 11 years is the preparatory stage. The focus is to take it up from the early learn priorities and move to a formal but interactive classroom learning method. Here we introduce students to a more structured learning through textbooks.

Main learning outcomes we focus on at this stage are enhancement of language proficiency, numerical and mathematical skills, experimental sciences, life skills, sports and arts.

At NIS, competency development is the primary priority. The competencies that are developed in students during the preparatory stages of learning are resilience, focus, perseverance, listening skills, team building, public speaking, literacy skills to name a few.

This is the phase where we train our students to experience the joy of self-learning; provide opportunities for free expression of ideas; enable discussions to appreciate multiple perspectives on the same topics; encourage them to work in teams and learn from their peers.

Successful completion of this phase makes a student ready for more focused skill, competency and knowledge development.

Middle School

(6th to 8th Std)

Middle school is the period of classes 6th to 8th std. Students of 11 to 14 years of age will be in middle school. This is the phase when students reach into adolescence and we as educators should consider this transition in their life stages while we design their learning paths.

NIS has a management comprising of doctors and we are sensitive to the challenges students face during the period of onset of puberty and adolescence.

Academically this is the period when we introduce students to more diverse subjects and concepts. They will be taken through deeper contemplation of concepts in each subject and are trained to appreciate the nuances of different concepts and also the connection and correlation between concepts of different subjects.

The competencies developed are time management, strategic thinking, efficiency, productivity, social media proficiency, stress management, organizational skills, prioritization and multitasking.

Successful completion of this stage empowers the student with necessary skills and competencies to face the demand of competition and intensive learning that they will encounter in their secondary and senior secondary schools.

Languages

Language skills are of utmost importance in the success of any individual. The ability to read correctly, understand clearly, articulate unambiguously and communicate appropriately determines success at all levels including personal, professional and social lives.

At NIS the focus on developing language skills ranks among the topmost priorities. For ensuring the effective development of language skills, every student is provided access to a world class language lab where they learn the languages in a progressive manner.

We appreciate the power of Indian languages and the scientific rationale of Indian languages stimulating better mental development. So, at NIS we train students to develop competencies in Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit apart from a very strong focus on professional English.

Learning languages at NIS is enjoyable and interactive; based in a lot of conversational learning and employs the usage of music, poetry, arts, theatre and movies as tools for developing better language skills.

Faculty details

Teachers are at the heart of facilitating transformation in our kids. We lay a great emphasis on continuous teacher development. We know that the teacher needs to be the greatest student and every teacher is assessed on the ability to be a student.

At NIS, every teacher needs to be on a continuous professional, curricular and pedagogical development path. Teachers are assessed on the parameters of:

1. Pedagogical competence

2. Personality competence

3. Social competence

4. Professional competence

Teachers at NIS are trained to deliver curriculum in a learning centric ecosystem. So, they function like the learning guides of students and employ motivation and encouragement as a main method of getting students to engage in learning. Corporal punishment is completely prohibited at NIS.

Teachers are required to constantly enhance their professional qualifications and are incentivized and supported in such pursuits. We strongly believe that only a constantly evolving teacher is capable of guiding students to be enthusiastic and happy learners.

Teacher training and development is an important part of NIS system and every teacher is trained on multiple competencies through different approaches which include but not limited to teacher training workshops, expert interactions, symposiums, conferences, teacher empowerment tests and more.
